White Rann or as it is popularly known “Rann of Kutch” is a salt desert which is unlike the desert in Rajasthan. It is the only White Desert in India. In a way it is a salt marsh and is located in Kutch district which lies in the northern part of Gujarat. It is also sometimes called “Little Rann of Kutch”. Unlike the dry region, the place is full of vibrancy in terms of culture and tradition.
Every year the Gujarat Tourism organizes the Rann festival called ‘Rann Utsav‘ which is hugely popular among the tourists not only in India but from abroad also. The festival ideally starts from November to February. In this period of time, when the temperature is cooler as compared to other months and the water which was earlier formed in monsoon dries up forming salty marsh or salt crust making it look like white sand desert.
